Good Saturday Afternoon Everyone!
I just wanted to send a Week 1 update on the Lady Wildcats. I am sure it would help the voters for each coach to post a weekly or some sort of update as the season progresses. You can look at scores in MaxPreps all you want, but that does not always tell the whole story:
I knew that our team needed some early challenges to become the team we want to be in October. So we scheduled 4A Greater Neuse River defending conference champion Corinth Holders for our first match!

Cardinal Gibbons returns 5 starters and 11 team members overall from last year's team that finished 19-4, winning the Cap 6 Conference and advancing to the third round of the state playoffs. The team is led by junior Celeste Davis, who will play number one singles for the third straight season. Juniors Lola Holderness, Claire Stewart, and Kaya Jantac, and sophomore Lilly Heiden are all returning starters who will bring a lot of experience to the lineup. Two freshmen join the team, including Isabelle Lu who will open the season at the number six singles position.
This year's Varsity team is comprised of 16 players overall and has high aspirations to compete for the conference championship and advance far in the playoffs. The regular season will include a challenging schedule, featuring many of the top public and private school teams in the area, in addition to the Cap 6 Conference opponents. Northeastern High School Returned 4 of its 6 players from last years squad.
Jessica Carter, a Doubles State Qualifier last year, anchors the team as the Captain and #1.
Briley Munden, Madeline Carlson, Julia Rosewall and Kailyn Cole all are battling for the 2-5 spots and sevral girls are lookign to crack to top 6 this year.
Coach Manzer has 14 Girls on the squad, and though they ae currently without last year's State Singles Quarterfinalist Jada Simpson (recovering from a long-term injury in her sophmore season) they will still have a ton of depth.

Charles B. Aycock High School will be rebuilding this year. We lost our top three to graduation, and our number five recently moved to Florida for her senior season. Those top three were Quad County All-Conference last year and led us to a 16-5 record, a second-place finish in the conference, and the school's first state playoff match in about eight years. Senior McKenzie Millard reached the final eight in the state last year in singles at the NCHSAA State Individual Championships at Burlington.
We are excited about the upcoming season. We have eleven players who have worked hard to improve since last year and we hope to be competitive with most teams in our conference.
Junior Allie Gray is our top returnee. She was 14-6 at number four singles last year and earned Quad County All-Conference honors. She will be one of our team leaders this year and will have to make some major adjustments at the top of the lineup.

The Lady Bulldogs have very high expectations for the upcoming season. The team is looking to achieve the ultimate goal, which is a state championship. After posting a 14-1 record and a 2nd round loss in the dual team playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs look to use the loss as fuel for the upcoming season.
Top Returners
The Lady Bulldogs return the top 8 players from last season, and bring in a few underclassmen for a total of 15 members on the team. The returners are led by Senior captain Annie Lieberman, a 3x Conference Player of the Year, 2x All Mid-East Regional, & 2x State Championships qualifier in singles.
Sophomore Loren Galaviz was the #2 player for the Lady Bulldogs. Loren had a great freshman campaign posting a 13-0 singles record. She was 1st team All-Conference, All Mid-East Regional, & also a State Championships qualifier in doubles.
Other notable returners include Sr. Lauren Zuravel (State Championships qualifer in doubles), Sr. Hannah Johnson, Sr. Sophie Blankenship, Sr. Olivia Stiles, & So. Lauren Ruppe. All of these returners were also members of the All-Conference team last season, with 3 of these young ladies qualifying for Regional Championships.
Top Newcomers
Freshman Pauline Bui will come in and make an immediate impact on the Lady Bulldogs roster. Pauline comes in rated as a 3 Star prospect and will compete for one of the top 3 spots in the Lady Bulldog lineup.
Sophomore Jiya Gorintala was a member of the team last season but missed some time due to injury. Jiya is looking to crack into the top 6 this season after working hard on recovering from injury and improving her game.
The ladies have been working hard this offseason and we had a really good summer. Our top 6 has not been solidified as we are currently having challenge matches in preparation for our opening match against 4A conference foe Overhills High on Aug 14th. The team looks to be very competitive and has a good opportunity to make a solid playoff run this season.
